2018-19 Future Olympian Ranking Calculation Explanation

Every time an athlete participates in a Future Olympian Ranking event they receive a placement percentile finish for the weight class they participated in for that event. The placement percentile is calculated based on how they placed and how many wrestlers were in the bracket. If they did not place it is calculated based on the number of wins the wrestler earned.

Additional points are earned for number of wins. For Regional and National Events, each win is worth .5 points multiplied by the placement percentile for that specific event.

EXAMPLE 1 (National Event) - If you win 6 matches and place 2nd at a National Championship Event and your placement percentile for that specific event is .96 (example percentile). We take .96 x 3pts (6 wins x .5) and you will get 2.88 additional bonus points for the 6 wins. To calculate the total score for that specific event we now take the placement points (.96 placement percentile x 100 pts for National level event) = 96 pts and add the 2.88 additional bonus points for the 6 wins and you will earn 98.88 points for that specific National event.

EXAMPLE 2 (Regional Event) - If you win 6 matches and place 1st at a Regional Event and your placement percentile for that specific event is 1.00. We take 1.00 x 3pts (6 wins x .5) and you will get 3 additional bonus points for the 6 wins. So to calculate the total score for that specific event we now take the placement points (1.00 placement percentile x 75 pts for Regional level event) = 75 pts and add the 3 additional bonus points for the 6 wins and you will earn 78 points for that specific Regional event.

EXAMPLE 3 (DID NOT PLACE) - If you did not place at a Regional or National Event and won 4 matches, the total number of points earned will be 2pts for that specific event.

The Future Olympian Rankings are calculated using the event levels specified above. The new rankings, add together the total points earned for their best 5 events for boys and best 3 events for girls in the levels they competed in. Once the events for each wrestler is added together, we can determine the wrestler’s final ranking and the top 36 for each age group.
