Age Divisions: Age divisions for all MN/USA events use the USAW 2 year birth year ranges, as follows (for the 2026-27 season): 6U = Birth Year 2021-2022, 8U = Birth Year 2019-2020, 10U = Birth Year 2017-2018, 12U = Birth Year 2015-2016, 14U = Birth Year 2013-2014.

*Qualifier Division: All qualifier division participants will accumulate qualification points towards MN/USA Regional Tournaments (for the 10U and 12U divisions) and qualification points toward MN/USA State Tournament (for the 6U qualifier & 8U qualifier divisions). All 14U qualifier participants are auto-qualified to the MN/USA State tournament, hence this an open division. Across MN/USA qualifier division results, 1st = 40 points, 2nd = 25 points, 3rd = 10 points. All results also aid PIN ratings that will help influence seeding criteria at Regions/State as well. All participants in the qualifier division will also accumulate "REPS" points, with the top 10 in each age group awarded at the MN/USA banquet (recognized in the Fall of 2027). Bracketing will follow standard MN/USA qualifier division pairing procedures.

Beginners Division (Co-Ed): The Beginners division was created by MN/USA with the goal of growing the sport of wrestling to increase competition opportunities for our newer/less experienced wrestlers. Participants in this division will NOT accumulate regional or state qualification points or points towards REPS awards, as this division is purely for fun and to gain experience. These divisions of our events allow a space and time for beginner/novice wrestlers (with limited experience in competition and the sport in general) to start their own journey in competing at wrestling tournaments.

  • Membership Options: Participants in the Beginners division can either register with their annual USAW membership; or can utilize the "Take-A-Shot" - 1 Day Membership from buying a 1 day ($10) trial membership to see what MN/USA and USAW are all about. You do not need to be a current MN/USA Wrestling member to participate! Please visit our website here Take A Shot for more information!
  • Beginner Division Eligibility Rules: The overall goal/intent of the beginners divisions is to match up wrestlers with little to no experience together to help acclimate our newer kids into the realm of competition. Entrants in the beginners division must meet the following criteria:
    • 1st or 2nd year wrestlers (not winning any state titles)
    • 3rd year wrestlers are welcome if they haven’t competed in any regional, state or national tournaments in the past
    • Tournament Directors will have final discretion to review entries and for overall governance of these division entries
    • Coaches should also review tournament entries across their clubs to help ensure the compliance and spirit of the eligibility rules and to help us create a great experience for these events. The tournament director/tournament operations director will review entries toward compliance of these rules and reserve the right to remove wrestlers from the tournament - without refund - if a wrestler does not fit the above criteria.
  • NOTE: Starting this 2026-27 season, MN/USA leadership has discontinued the 6U "Beginner" division as all entries are grouped together to create more opportunities for matches since participation in this age group is normally 1st or 2nd year oriented anyway and to increase qualification opportunities to State Tournaments with all 6U wrestlers in the same division. Beginner divisions are open to 8U, 10U and 12U participants.

**Girls Only Division: There is no qualification points up for grabs within the Girls Division, as the MN/USA Girls State Individual Tournament remains an open tournament at the end of the folkstyle season. This division is reserved for females wishing to compete against girls only competitors. Bracketing will be focused on maximizing match opportunities based on age/weight as best as possible. The default age division groupings will be 6U-8U, 10U, 12U and 14U. Results translate into "REPS" points toward end of year awards in the Girls awards category.
