After an extraordinary career dedicated to the sport and spirit of wrestling, Gary Abbott will soon be retiring from USA Wrestling. As a cornerstone of our organization and the wrestling community at large, Gary has played an instrumental role in shaping the voice and vision of USA Wrestling. We are thrilled to celebrate his incredible journey and look forward to hearing him share reflections on his career, the milestones he’s witnessed, and the legacy he leaves behind. Thank you, Gary, for your decades of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the wrestling family. You will always be a champion in our hearts.

Matt Njos lives in Anoka, Minnesota, with his wife Mandy and is a proud father of four and grandfather of four. With over 15 years of involvement in Minnesota USA Wrestling, including serving as Executive Director since 2020, Matt has focused on growing the organization by improving tournament operations. His expertise includes the benefits of reformatting tournaments, how to run session-based tournaments effectively, and strategies for increasing profitability from events.

Transitioning to Freestyle for the Girls High School Season
Kris Harrington, New York USAW State Chair, brings over two decades of coaching experience and has led Tioga Central High School to multiple individual and team state championships. He also serves as Director of the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club and has been a driving force in the advancement of high school wrestling across New York State. Eric Mullen has been the Varsity Wrestling Coach at Canandaigua Academy for 17 years. He currently serves as Assistant Coach at St. John Fisher University, Section V Girls Wrestling Coordinator, and Treasurer for NY/USAW. This session will highlight how New York USA Wrestling partnered with NYSPHSAA to support the transition to freestyle for the girls’ high school season. The presentation will focus on common challenges and practical strategies for overcoming them.
