Process Focus:
Raise awareness of key coaching skills and tools identified by the USOPC and USA Wrestling as foundational for coaching. 

Benefits of Silver include:

Networking with coaches across the nation (Silver Coaches College task)

Once a coach has proven to USA Wrestling that they understand the tasks above,
they may be considered for coaching assignments with age group teams for international trips/travel.

USA Wrestling and the US Wrestling Officials Association (USWOA) have built an ONLINE VERSION of the Officials Education Program (OEP) for Coaches.

The USA Wrestling Silver Certification is an optional certification level for coaches who are committed to stretching their professional knowledge of our sport with an open mind. Coaches working on Silver Level tasks will work with the NCEP Manager on practice planning, a 2-3 day in-person course of on/off mat skills, complete an online course in 3D Coaching, Officials Education Program (OEP) for Coaches, gain certification in CPR/AED, and prepare a book report. Tasks may be completed in any order. Some tasks require fees (3D online is @125, Silver College costs vary from $350 plus transportation and expenses). 

Prerequisites and Curriculum:

Participants must be a current Wrestling Leader member of USA Wrestling (requiring a successful background check and SafeSport certification - both accessed from your membership profile) before attending any clinic (either in-person or online).  Please allow 10 days for your background check to be completed before purchasing membership. The SafeSport course is free and lasts 90 minutes while the annual refresher is generally 30 minutes. It is also accessed from your membership profile. 

Coaches must have both Copper (for coaching ages 12U) and Bronze (for coaching ages 13+) to attend a Silver College and to start Silver tasks. 

The Silver Certification contains 101 contact hours (24 hours of in person instruction, 5 hours OEP training, 8 hours of technical certification via submitted practice plans and video, CPR/AED certification, and a new book report). 10 contact hours typically equate to 1 Continuing Education Unit credit.

Awards and Continuing Education Credits:

Participants completing the Silver Certification through the National Coaches Education Program (NCEP) of USA Wrestling will receive a new USA Wrestling membership card (showing your Silver Certification as "S" under NCEP), and a gift of our appreciation that will be sent to the address you list on your membership profile (please allow 8-12 weeks for processing and delivery of these awards).

USA Wrestling will update your coach profile with the certification (typically within 2-3 business days). Once we update your profile, you’ll be notified via email that you can now print a membership card online from your profile as proof of certification and membership.

There are no waivers for this task based on previous athletic accomplishments or coaching credentials
as this task analyzes coaching skills and not athletic proficiency or coaching success.
